Philadelphia’s own NxG, also known as Mr. Eyy Yeah, has delivered listeners his first full-length project, Outta Here Soon. Many fans have been waiting for a collective body of work from the exciting young rapper, and with the assistance of the Philly-based production collective, Working on Dying, the project was nothing short of intriguing. Over an 18-minute runtime, the album shows and proves that NxG is bursting with potential. With a great load of production handled by FaxOnly, NxG is allowed to personify energy with his performances.
My favorite tracks across the project have to be the opening and closing tracks. “React” opens the album with contagious punk energy over a rage-inducing beat. The last track, “Back to Basics,” does simply that, as it sees NxG take a more traditional approach to hip-hop. He addresses negative energy from critics with bars like, “If I was you then I would hate to too / Who would've thought a Carti clone could go and make these moves?”
The name of the project, Outta Here Soon, provides a sense of foreshadowing. NxG shows he can glide over beats at the same ability as the usual suspects finding themselves going in over beats from the likes of Oogiemane, BrandonFinessin, FaxOnly, F1lthy, and more. WorkingonDying has made many hit songs for some of the biggest names in rap; can NxG be one of the newest to find success on the scales of Uzi, Carti, Drake, and Future?
