Dear diary,
I love Aaron Rodgers. I’m sorry. I know that’s wrong, but he’s just so fun to watch throw a football. He’s an arrogant, dramatic, supernova of talent. And despite my undivided loyalty to the Chicago Bears, Aaron Rodgers has been my not-so-secret crush for years now. He’s the most purely gifted quarterback I’ve ever seen. He’s sustained a level of brilliance that few other quarterbacks have ever been able to, and he knows it just as well as we do.
Yesterday wasn’t about the Bears losing to the Packers (again), it was about the first chapter in the Aaron Rodgers/Justin Fields saga. A budding star quarterback turning the page in a new chapter for the oldest rivalry in sports.
For once, we actually had a competent quarterback who could match some of the skill sets that Green Bay’s signal-caller could. Sure, Fields may not have the elite level of processing yet that Rodgers has possessed for over a decade, but he showed flashes of brilliance once again, delivering pinpoint passes and utilizing his legs when necessary. It was as if the sensei was punishing the padawan, but looking upon him with a subtle smirk, saying to himself, “I’ve finally found a worthy opponent in Chicago.”
The legendary matchups don’t stop here. Fields and the Bears go against Tom Brady and the Bucs next week, who will be itching for some sort of redemption after losing in Chicago last year during their Super Bowl season.
