One of Houston's most exciting underground artists and tastemakers, HVN, released the visuals for his new single "Demon" today. The Trey Lyon-directed video comes nearly a week after the track originally dropped. Intriguing, eerie camerawork accompanies the bouncy drums and layered ad-libs. The visuals bring the same excellent usage of colors and lights that were so prevalent in HVN's first music video for his standouts tracks "Backhand/323 Outro." Following the track comes a surprise cameo appearance from Taco. Like the video for "Backhand/323 Outro," "Demon" features a switch-up to an unreleased snippet after the brief skit with the former Odd Future member. As the moody, spaced-out vocals over delicate strings fade out, my anticipation to see HVN's impending big break grows immensely.
"Demon" proves once again that HVN's energy and futuristic take on southern trap is sounding truly ahead of its time. Following his February debut Welcome to Heaven, he has grown quite the buzz that has garnered the attention of many, including the co-sign of generational trendsetter Virgil Abloh. The future of the Houston hip-hop scene is in good hands with the fresh sounds of Houston's DON'T DIE movement, founded by the Houston artist along with their frequent collaborators such as BBY Kodie, BroadDay, NoFriends, BigRedShooter, and YGR. Check out the video above, as well as HVN's "Backhand" video and Welcome to Heaven project from earlier this year below.
