Burbs 2020 NFL Mock Draft 2.0 With Dobbs and Ice

The NFL combine is officially over, which means that it's about that time that we start getting into our mock draft 2.0. There's going to be some changes from our first, as some people really showed out at the combine and some struggled with the high expectations. Without further ado, let's get into it.

2020 NFL Mock Draft 2.0

1. Cincinnati Bengals

1c3: Joe Burrow QB LSU

With Cincinnati likely to move on from longtime starter Andy Dalton, they take hometown kid Joe Burrow. Burrow put up one of the greatest statistical seasons in college football history, so no surprise that he goes number one here.

Dobbs: Joe Burrow QB LSU

This pick is simply a lock, the Bengals don’t pass on the good character QB who just tossed a historic season in CFB and won the National Championship.

2. Washington Redskins

1c3: Chase Young Edge OSU

Media guys like Colin Cowherd and Mel Kiper Jr. have suggested that the Redskins should go Tua here. However, Rivera opts to see what he has with Dwayne Haskins and takes the best player in the draft Chase Young. Young should be able to slide in immediately and produce in Jack Del Rio’s defense.

Dobbs: Chase Young Edge OSU

Although there has been some speculation recently as to the Skins selecting Tua at #2 overall; I and many others will continue to look at it as a smokescreen until they show otherwise. With that said, Chase Young is very likely the prospect chosen with his incredible size, speed and technique.

3. Detroit Lions

1c3: Jeff Okudah CB OSU

Detroit could trade out of this spot and secure more capital, but if they end up staying here, Okudah has to be the pick. Darius Slay could be leaving, which would make the Lions secondary even worse than it already is. He’s the best corner prospect in the draft and scouts remind him of 2019 DPOY Stephon Gilmore. Detroit starts its rebuild on defense by getting one of the best in the draft.

Dobbs: Jeff Okudah CB OSU

Jeff Okudah is the guy here for the Lions. He fits their defensive scheme to a tee seeing as he is easily the best man to man cornerback in this class.

4. New York Giants

1c3: Isaiah Simmons LB/S Clemson

New York has a more pressing need on the offensive line, but they can’t pass up on the athletic freak that is Isaiah Simmons. He wowed scouts at the combine with his vertical and 40-yard dash. Not only that, Simmons showed that he can play all over the field in college. He instantly becomes the face of the Giants poor defense.

Dobbs: Isaiah Simmons LB/S Clemson

O-line is obviously a huge need for the Giants and you may be asking yourself how they could pass on a tackle here. Your answer is simply that they probably won’t pass on the potentially generational defender in Isaiah Simmons, and then address O-line via free agency

5. Miami Dolphins

1c3: Justin Herbert QB Oregon

Justin Herbert impressed scouts at the combine with his arm talent and his sneaky athleticism. The buzz around the Dolphins is that they really like Herbert. This could all change after Tua’s pro day, but for right now, Herbert is likely to be the choice.

Dobbs: Tua Tagovailoa QB Alabama

Look... Right now there are a lot of questions surrounding Tua’s health and potential trades in draft picks in order to get him. In this mock I left it free of trades so we won’t do anything crazy. Barring any trades, Tua is likely the Dolphins QB of the future.

6. Los Angeles Chargers

1c3: Mekhi Becton OT Louisville

The Chargers pass on Tua here and instead decide to beef up their weak offensive line. Becton is massive at 6”7 364 pounds and moves like a gazelle for his size. Becton slides in and protects whoever the Chargers slot in at quarterback.

Dobbs: Tristan Wirfs OL Iowa

Tristan Wirfs was one of the players who benefited a lot from the combine if not the most. He simply dominated it in every important area for an offensive lineman and looks to make a fantastic left or right tackle for the Chargers.

7. Carolina Panthers

1c3: TRADE w/ Las Vegas Raiders

LV receives: #7, 2020 4th, 2021 6th

CAR receives #12, #19, 2021 2nd, 2021 4th, 2021 5th

LV: Tua Tagovailoa QB Alabama

With the Chargers passing on Tua, Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden jump on the opportunity to trade up, and send the 12th and 19th picks, along with a future third to Carolina for #7, a 2020 fourth and a 2021 sixth. The Raiders decide that the Derek Carr era is over and make Tua the face of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Dobbs: Justin Herbert QB Oregon

Justin Herbert was a guy that I have moved up a bit after the combine as well. He dominated it as far as QB’s and honestly looks like he could be a project completely worth delving into. His arm talent, throwing mechanics and overall size make him super dangerous if you put him in the right scenario; And this young Carolina team may be just the spot for Herbert to develop, as it looks like Cam Newton won’t be back next season in a Panthers uniform.

8. Arizona Cardinals

1c3: CeeDee Lamb WR Oklahoma

The Cardinals are another team with a need on the offensive line, but decide to get a familiar weapon for their franchise quarterback. Lamb isn’t the fastest guy, but he’s a monster after the catch and catches everything that’s thrown to him. He teams up with his former college quarterback Kyler Murray

Dobbs: CeeDee Lamb WR Oklahoma

“How could the Cardinals not take an O-lineman right here” ok ok… for the record I think the same thing. But it has been reported that the Cardinals are looking to commit this pick to a young #1 receiver for Kyler Murray and who is better in that role than the elusive CeeDee Lamb who was Murray’s running mate down at Oklahoma just 2 seasons ago.

9. Jacksonville Jaguars

1c3: Derrick Brown IDL Auburn

Jacksonville is thrilled that another great defensive player fans to them. It happened with Josh Allen last year and it happens again with Derrick Brown. The Jaguars statistically have one of the worst interior lines in football, so adding Brown here would make a lot of sense.

Dobbs: Mekhi Becton OT Louisville

Hearing Mekhi Becton to Jacksonville sounds a bit weird, even I'll admit. But, after the combine, it looks like this is where he may land. The Jaguars could go plenty of directions with this pick, but I assume they will go with the boom or bust Becton who’s size and raw potential you just shouldn’t pass on.

10. Cleveland Browns

1c3: Tristan Wirfs OL Iowa

Wirfs had a very impressive combine, highlighted by a 4.85 40 yard time. He also has the versatility to either stay at tackle or kick inside to guard. Cleveland is another team that needs to help protect their young quarterback. Wirfs is the easy pick here.

Dobbs: Andrew Thomas OT Georgia

This pick was actually really hard to decide on because it was either Andrew Thomas or Jedrick Wills Jr., seeing as to how desperately the Browns O-line needs help. I decided to go with Thomas just on the fact that he has been anchoring the Georgia O-line since he was a true freshman and has the extra inch on him and had a significantly better 20 yard shuttle time.

11. New York Jets

1c3: Jedrick Wills Jr. OT Alabama

The Jets could go with a wide receiver here, but instead, they look to attack their glaring need on the offensive line and take Alabama’s Jedrick Wills Jr. He can play either tackle position and will definitely help improve the Jets line right away.

Dobbs: Jedrick Wills Jr. OT Alabama

The Jets are also very much in high need of a dominant O-line prospect to protect their young franchise QB. Fortunately, Wills Jr. will be available here for them to snag and he will help anchor down part of their line.

12. Las Vegas Raiders

1c3: TRADE w/ Carolina Panthers

CAR: CJ Henderson CB Florida

After trading back and acquiring more draft capital, new coach Matt Rhule spends his first pick on a talented corner who rose his stock after a phenomenal combine performance. Henderson has it all, size, strength, speed you name it, he’s got it. James Bradberry is a free agent and if he doesn’t come back, Henderson should slot in as their cornerback one.

Dobbs: Jerry Jeudy WR Alabama

Jeudy falling to the Raiders here is a perfect fit. A receiver who can help open up the field for everyone else with his terrific speed and route running, plus a release that will leave a DB shook. Gruden would have a field day designing some crafty plays involving Jeudy.

13. Indianapolis Colts

1c3: Jerry Jeudy WR Alabama

The Colts need to give Jacoby Brissett another weapon to throw to. Insert Jerry Jeudy, a crisp route runner who reminds a lot of scouts of former Indianapolis legend Marvin Harrison.

Dobbs: Derrick Brown IDL Auburn

I think the Colts take the best player on the board right here and end up dealing with the QB position via free agency or giving Brissett one more season. That’s why I have Derrick Brown being snagged here. Honestly, Brown may already be off the board here by one of those teams I said could go multiple directions with their pick. But, if he's not, expect him to be taken right by the Colts to bolster their D-line.

14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

1c3: Jordan Love QB Utah State

With the Buccaneers likely using their franchise tag on pass rusher Shaq Barrett, that leaves them with a difficult decision. Do they pay James Winston, who’s shown flashes of greatness, but also is wildly inconsistent. Or do they take a stab and draft their potential QB of the future. I think they sign Winston to a one or two year deal and roll the dice on Jordan Love here, who won’t be ready right away, but can step in after a year or two, similar to what Patrick Mahomes did in Kansas City.

Dobbs: K'Lavon Chaisson Edge LSU

K'Lavon Chaisson is going to be a very versatile outside linebacker in the NFL. His skill set involves everything from stuffing the run to covering the pass in man or zone. His pass-rushing skills definitely need to be honed but I think that will happen slowly but surely with Chaisson. With all that said, he is a perfect match in this Buccaneers defense and should be taken here solely off of his team fit and potential.

15. Denver Broncos

1c3: Henry Ruggs III WR Alabama

Denver needs to upgrade their pass catchers and they go with the speedy Henry Ruggs from Alabama. Ruggs put up the best showing in the 40-yard dash, running a 4.27 forty. Ruggs. Should make an immediate impact for Denver’s potential franchise quarterback Drew Lock.

Dobbs: C.J. Henderson CB Florida

Again with teams that could go many different directions with their first-round pick, the Broncos fit right in that category. The most likely pick I see here is them taking C.J. Henderson to replace Chris Harris Jr. who is still very likely out of Denver via free agency very soon.

16. Atlanta Falcons

1c3: A.J. Epenesa DL Iowa

A.J. Epenesa struggled at the combine because he isn't going to wow you with his athleticism. He’s a tape guy and you’ll see that specifically against fellow draft hopeful Austin Jackson. He wins with his size and strength. There’s also been all that Epenesa could kick inside to DT. Whatever the case may be, the Falcons are getting a quality pass rusher here.

Dobbs: Javon Kinlaw IDL South Carolina

The Falcons publicly noted this off-season that upgrading their pass-rush would be the main goal. While Kinlaw obviously isn’t an edge rusher. The blocking schemes he would likely start getting very soon into his NFL career would open up lots of opportunities for other players on that D-line.

17. Dallas Cowboys

1c3: Xavier McKinney S Alabama

McKinney isn’t going to blow you away with athleticism, but he’s smart, instinctive and good in the run game. With Dallas needing to upgrade their secondary, McKinney makes a lot of sense for them.

Dobbs: Kristian Fulton CB LSU

Kristian Fulton looks to be the guy for the Cowboys here. With Byron Jones virtually already on another team, the Cowboys will need cornerback help badly. Who else to snag here other than Fulton, who ranked near the top in every important statistical category for DB’s last season and also played on a national championship team from the SEC.

18. Miami Dolphins VIA Pittsburgh Steelers

1c3: Andrew Thomas OT Georgia

With the Dolphins second pick of the first round, they protect their new quarterbacks blindside by taking Georgia’s Andrew Thomas. Thomas should help the Dolphins in the run game, as Miami ranked last in the league in rushing.

Dobbs: Josh Jones OT Houston

Josh Jones is a perfect fit here for the Dolphins. They need an O-lineman terribly bad and can’t snag one of the top ones barring a trade up, so they will look to the high ceiling low floor guy in Jones. He won’t be dominating on day 1, but his potential is as high as any O-lineman in this draft and we may just end up looking back on this pick as a complete steal.

19. Las Vegas Raiders VIA Chicago Bears

1c3: TRADE w/ Carolina Panthers

CAR: Javon Kinlaw IDL South Carolina

With Carolina’s second pick, they beef up their defensive line by taking Javon Kinlaw. Gerald McCoy is a free agent and likely won’t be returning. Kinlaw put out great tape and will help a Panthers defense that lost its best player in Luke Keuchly.

Dobbs: Jordan Love QB Utah State

The Raiders could definitely go in a direction besides QB, but I think if he’s available Jon Gruden will be high on Love and his potential. Especially his ability to extend a play. Which is why he could be the high-risk high reward pick that ends up taking Carr’s spot eventually.

20. Jacksonville Jaguars VIA Los Angeles Rams

1c3: Patrick Queen LB LSU

With Telvin Smith technically retired at this point, Jacksonville has a hole at linebacker. To fill the hole, they go with LSU’s Patrick Queen. Queen was inconsistent with the Tigers but put out good enough tape and a good showing at the combine for the Jaguars to use their second first-round pick on him.

Dobbs: Trevon Diggs CB Alabama

Trevon Diggs looks to be a perfect pick for the DB needing Jags if he is still available here. He has great length and strength when in man to man situations. But, notably also was consistently good in zone situations where we would jump routes or break up passes.

21. Philadelphia Eagles

1c3: Justin Jefferson WR LSU

Back to back Tigers go as the Eagles address their need at receiver by taking Justin Jefferson. Jefferson ran a 4.42 at the combine, which propelled him into a likely first-round pick. He will slide into the slot, with Nelson Agholor expected to move on in free agency.

Dobbs: Henry Ruggs III WR Alabama

Henry Ruggs III just simply fits here. The Eagles desperately need WR help and Ruggs III will be a guy that can take 2 defenders out of a play anytime. Another team may steal him earlier than this post combine after he confirmed his freakish athleticism we already were near-certain about. However, I doubt that just due to the order of team needs in the draft.

22. Buffalo Bills

1c3: K'Lavon Chaisson Edge LSU

Three Tigers in a row. That’s what winning a national championship does for you. Chaisson has the athletic tools to be a great rusher in the league but will need to improve his technique and consistency. Defensive minded Sean McDermott should help him out a lot.

Dobbs: Tee Higgins WR Clemson

Tee Higgins is the receiver fit the Bills need here and let me explain why; because there are plenty of good receivers in this class that are available they should be able to take right here. Josh Allen is the Bills quarterback, and albeit that I do think Allen will improve his accuracy over the next couple of seasons, right now that accuracy is subpar at best. Higgins is a guy that goes up and gets nearly anything thrown his way, and has incredible instincts and catch radius. He is a monster in the red-zone as well, which the Bills obviously struggled in. Bottom Line: There are tons of options here for the Bills, but Higgins just looks to be the best fit.

23. New England Patriots

1c3: Ross Blacklock IDL TCU

With all of their quarterback options off the board, New England goes to the defensive line and takes TCU’s, Ross Blacklock. He’s a force in the middle and will help New England’s already strong defensive unit.

Dobbs: Patrick Queen LB LSU

You never know what the Patriots are gonna do with their 1st round pick. But, seeing as Jamie Collins is likely leaving for another team in free agency and the Patriots are looking to acquire skill position (RB, TE, WR) players through free agency and trades, I think Queen is Belichick’s perfect fit if he is available here. He has great instincts tracking the ball and phenomenal athleticism, especially on tape.

24. New Orleans Saints

1c3: Jalen Reagor WR TCU

Horned Frogs go in back to back picks as New Orleans gets an explosive playmaker in Jalen Reagor, who is a nightmare with the ball in his hands. Has the versatility to be a deep threat or a guy who wins with speed in short routes and screen passes.

Dobbs: Justin Jefferson WR LSU

Justin Jefferson to the Saints would actually be the near definition of a perfect fit. A shifty and aggressive receiver who grew up watching New Orleans, he also ran the same routes as the Saints already did in college. Jefferson's dreams come true, as he gets selected by his hometown team in the draft.

25. Minnesota Vikings

1c3: Brandon Aiyuk WR Arizona St.

There’s a buzz going around that the Vikings could part ways with Stefan Diggs this offseason. If that’s the case, Minnesota finds a replacement in Aiyuk, who isn’t as fast as Diggs, but is bigger and can be more of a threat in the red zone.

Dobbs: Austin Jackson OT USC

Austin Jackson to the Vikings here is a high possibility. The Vikings who will likely be looking to bolster their O-line could likely grab Jackson right here to help in both run and pass blocking. He might not be the best guy right out of the gates, but with the right coaching and technique adjustments, he could potentially be a great lineman.

26. Miami Dolphins VIA Houston Texans

1c3: Johnathan Taylor RB Wisconsin

We knew Johnathan Taylor was good, but his combine performance showed that he’s the best running back in the class. His 4.39 40 time shocked everyone and should help a Miami team that simply couldn’t run the ball last year.

Dobbs: A.J. Epenesa DL Iowa

A.J. Epenesa is a great pick for the Dolphins here. In major need of some pass-rush help, Epenesa could be exactly the guy they are looking for. He boasts great power and size, as well as being more agile than you would expect for someone his size.

27. Seattle Seahawks

1c3: Neville Gallimore IDL Oklahoma

Seattle’s front four has never been dominant. They need to find guys who can be a force in the middle. Gallimore is that guy. While you always hear and see that Oklahoma’s defense isn’t good and Big 12 defenses are garbage, they do put out quality talent, and you could add Gallimore on that list. Should step in right away and make a positive impact.

Dobbs: Marlon Davidson DL Auburn

Marlon Davidson fits great here on a Seahawks team that may lose more than half of its current D-line via free agency. Davidson can rush the interior or exterior and make plays defending the run and getting to the quarterback. He has a great frame that can be built on and has great burst/athleticism for someone so big.

28. Baltimore Ravens

1c3: Yetur Gross-Matos Edge Penn St.

With Matthew Judon’s future uncertain in Baltimore, the Ravens take a chance on an uber-athletic rusher in Gross-Matos, who had big production in college.

Dobbs: Kenneth Murray LB Oklahoma

Kenneth Murray would be a very solid fit here late in the 1st round for the Ravens. He primarily plays the middle of the field but also is a great blitzer in passing situations and can play the spy really well.

29. Tennesee Titans

This was a sudden change, as we learned that Titans OT Jack Conklin could be moving on in free agency. If that’s the case, Tennessee finds its replacement here in USC’s Austin Jackson. Jackson struggled against likely first-round pick A.J. Epenesa in the bowl game but has the athletic tools to be a quality right tackle at the next level.

Dobbs: Zack Baun LB Wisconsin

The Titans were a very complete team in the 2nd half of the season. If I had to pick an area I think they are gonna look to improve with the news now in play that the team plans on franchise tagging Henry if they can’t resign him; I would say they are going to address their pass-rush need. Enter Zack Baun. Baun is a linebacker with great instincts in lots of aspects. He can rush the passer, play in coverage and help stuff the run. He looks to be a high-value guy who should end up going late 1st round/early 2nd.

30. Green Bay Packers

1c3: Tee Higgins WR Clemson

It's no secret that the Green Bay Packers need to add some weapons for their future hall of fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Look no further than Tee Higgins, a big receiver with a huge catch radius. Reminds me a lot of fellow Clemson Tiger wideout Mike Williams. Will immediately play outside and provide a nice compliment to Davante Adams.

Dobbs: Cole Kmet TE Notre Dame

In my eyes, the Packers either select Cole Kmet here or go with a WR. They already have a young defense that will be building on last season, and on the other hand, they have an aging Aaron Rodgers who needs weapons badly. Jimmy Graham hasn’t been productive as they had hoped at all since his arrival and they need a big target that can go up and get high balls bad. Cole Kmet is a blocking machine but also easily one of the most athletic and instinctive tight ends in the draft. He looks to be a George Kittle/Travis Kelce type player at his ceiling, which makes him a potential major steal in this draft.

31. San Francisco 49ers

1c3: Jaylon Johnson CB Utah

With Richard Sherman aging and the CB two spot in question, John Lynch goes out and gets Johnson, who has an intriguing combination of size and speed for the position. Great value this late in round one

Dobbs: Denzel Mims WR Baylor

Denzel Mims was easily one of the highest risers out of the combine and potentially raised his stock approximately 1-2 rounds. I was already super high on him from his film and performance at the senior bowl, but his combine confirmed that he is legit and should be taken very seriously as dare I even say one of the top 5 receiving talents in this class. The 49ers adding him here could be a lethal addition to their offense with his amazing frame, athleticism, blocking & catch radius.

32. Kansas City Chiefs

1c3: Kenneth Murray LB OSU

The Chiefs don’t have many needs at this selection. However, one place they can look to improve is linebacker. Look no further than Kenneth Murray who impressed at Oklahoma with his athleticism and motor. He did pull a hamstring running the 40 at the combine, but he’s expected to be fine and did enough to warrant a first-round selection.

Dobbs: Cesar Ruiz IOL Michigan

The Chiefs will be in a position where they may do many things with this pick. Though I suspect they will use it on an interior lineman to help bolster their O-line for Mahomes on a cheap contract for the position. Cesar Ruiz had great tape consistently in college and also has a great frame for the next level. Protecting Mahomes will be key for years to come in Kansas City, so why not make one of those moves to protect him right here where the move is very high in value.
