After a teaser trailer appeared last week, A24 has finally released the trailer for the upcoming "Uncut Gems". The Adam Sandler-starring crime drama is slated for release on Christmas Day.

According to the iMDB synopsis, "Uncut Gems" follows Howard Ratner, "...a jewelry store owner and dealer to the rich and famous, (who) must find a way to pay his debts when his merchandise is taken from one of his top sellers and girlfriend."

Written and directed by the Safdie Brothers, the film has already received critical praise following a string of film festival screenings. It currently has a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes (36 reviews) and an 88 on Metacritic (18 reviews). Sandler has even received Oscar-buzz following his latest dramatic turn, his last since 2009's "Funny People". Was that his last "dramatic" role? It was a "dramedy", but it wasn't consistently ha-ha funny.

Also starring Idina Menzel, LaKeith Stanfield, Eric Bogosian, and The Weeknd, "Uncut Gems" is prepared to take audiences, and awards season, by storm. Future Basketball Hall of Fame-inductee Kevin Garnett and New York sportscaster Mike Francesca made appearances in the trailer and while the size of their roles is unknown, it looks as if sports gambling will be a featured plot-line.

Adam Sandler has proven to be a genuinely good actor when given the chance to, and mixed with pre-wide release reviews, "Uncut Gems" looks to be one of the best films of the year. Crime thrillers set in New York City become instantly memorable when produced properly and all indicators point to just that.

The trailer is set to "Pray 4 Love" by Travis Scott featuring The Weeknd, so that's a welcomed sign for greatness.

Jonah Hill was originally slated to star, but Sandler took over before production. I'm all about serious Sandler and I think him getting nominated for an Oscar would be one of the best turns in entertainment history. The Weeknd wasn't in the trailer a ton, but he gets a good shove from Sandler, so I'm praying that we get to see Abel's acting chops. "Uncut Gems" has become my most anticipated film of the year behind "Joker".
